Yesterday, November 25, 2010 under the patronage of ICE (ICE - Institute Foreign Trade Italy) in GUM was another event tasting of Sicilian wines " -SICILY ISLAND WINES ". In contrast to the exhibition in 2009 ( see here ), catches the eye almost complete absence of well-known brands. There was no Donnafugata, no Casumano , nor Tasca d'Almerita , nor omnipresent Planeta . Except for manufacturers Baglio di Pianetto (Luding), Corvo (AST) and Feudo Arancio (Trinity Group) were mostly manufacturers or bulk wine, or small farms seeking importers and distributors for its products. Wines from Settesoli (Brand Mandrarossa), distro. in Russia, Eastern Winws and Spirits. Starn was seen Pinot Grigio from Sicily, and even aged in a barrel (!) / disliked /
A good wine Etna bianco Etna doc from Cottanera of interesting white varieties Karrikante. Grape growing at the foot of the southern slopes of Mount Etna volcano. Wine liked the fact that it is not as heavy as most Sicilian white.
As in 2009, Achille Alessi, general manager of the company's Terre di Giurfo represented (it seems the only at the show) the highest category docg wine from Sicily - Cerasuolo di Vittorio. This time he brought not only the usual wine, but with aging in oak barrels (it. barricato, in the photo).
